Don't Throw Out Your Old Nail Polish!
Hello everyone!
Welcome back to my blog. I hope you all are doing well.
I found an interesting product to share with you guys. It's a nail polish thinner!
Years ago, I was watching a video on how to restore old nail polishes. The star of the video was a nail polish thinner. The YouTuber (can’t find the video) was nice enough to recommend their favorite brands. However, to my disappointment, I realized that we didn’t have nail polish thinners here in India (let alone trying from different brands).
I'm assuming that you all know the difference between a thinner and a remover. Yes, they are different. Don't put remover in nail polishes to restore them. You're just ruining them.
Note: when I say ‘India’, I'm generalizing for writing purposes. I'm basing this on the fact that I couldn’t find any thinners online or in my local stores. This could be different for you depending on where you live in the country. 😊
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to search ‘nail polish thinner’ on Nykaa. I wasn’t expecting anything but to my surprise one product showed up. It was the Gala of London Nail Polish Thinner.
Take a shot every time you read the words nail, polish or thinner. Cheers!
Details
Gala of London Nail Polish Thinner
Where to buy - I got it from Nykaa
MRP - ₹90/-
Quantity – 27 ml
Expiry Date - December, 2023
Product description (taken from Nykaa) - This solvent based product is used to rectify your dry and thickened nail polish. Easy and ready for use. Suitable for both professional salon or home use.
Features -
Specially formulated to restore polish to its correct consistency
It thins thickened polish without changing your polishes formula
Makes it easier to apply nail polish in thin coats
Instructions - Just add a few drops of nail polish thinner and roll the bottle in your palms to distribute it.
Packaging – it comes in a glass bottle with a plastic cap and resembles a generic nail polish remover bottle. Although on the Nykaa website the cap is white, the ones I received were black. It doesn’t matter but I thought I should mention it. To dispense the product, they have that plastic covering where you are supposed to pierce a hole. The whole product dispensing mechanism is very inconvenient. They should’ve made a dropper bottle for better control.
Initially, you will have to pierce two holes, 1) to dispense the product and 2) for airflow. However, doing it this way gets way too messy and you waste product simultaneously.
So, my suggestion would be to get a dropper from a nearby store. I guess stationaries sell droppers for ink bottles. You can use those. Honestly, it doesn't matter where you get it from. The scientific principle remains the same.
How I Use It – before you begin the whole nail polish restoration process, please watch this video by Kelli Marissa. She’s a YouTuber who makes lots of nail related videos. It's imperative that you watch her video first because I won't be summarizing her content, only adding to what she has said.
I had only one really dry and clumpy nail polish that I restored using this product but I forgot to take a before and after shot of it. I did exactly what Kelli showed in her video and it took around 50 drops to restore that polish. One thing that I didn’t anticipate was that there was a chunk of dried polish stuck on the brush/ applicator that took days to dissolve. So, even though I fixed the consistency, it did take days for the polish to become usable again. The dried chunk dissolved eventually.
Final thoughts – watch Kelli Marissa’s video and get this product. Buy a dropper beforehand so the whole process of nail polish restoration becomes easy. The product is really cheap and effective. At the moment only this brand is selling a product like this on Nykaa. Minimum free delivery is ₹500 so what I did was get three bottles of this and one Sally Hansen Nail Polish in the shade Lacey Lilac. I don’t see how buying this product would be a waste, unless you don’t own any nail polish whatsoever (of course, lol).
